THE FORT WINS AWARD FROM WINE SPECTATOR MAGAZINE

Morrison, CO – The Fort’s wine program has done it again, receiving a 2006 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine.  The Fort was one of the few restaurants selected from over 3,500 applications.   The award will be listed in the August 31, 2006 Dining Guide issue of Wine Spectator.

“It has been interesting and exciting to develop our wine list even since winning our award for the first time last year in 2005.  People can come in and enjoy a fine meal from Executive Chef Trevor Dierolf and select the perfect bottle of wine to accompany their dinner” said Chris Seres, Director of The Fort’s wine program.  “We have involved our staff in wine tastings, pairings from the kitchen, and seminars so our guests will have good recommendations on Colorado wines and wines from around the world as part of The Fort's "Shinin Times" experience.”

“Recognition from Wine Spectator, the most well known national authority on wine, is a great honor,” said Holly Arnold Kinney, proprietress of The Fort.

The Fort sells more than forty cases of wine each month with their wine cellar housing more than 2,000 bottles consisting of 270 different varieties.  Striving to serve the finest wines at reasonable prices, The Fort offers wines that are not typically available to consumers.  One of the top restaurants in total wine sales, The Fort serves 200 – 400 customers each evening, seven nights a week, with many of these customers purchasing wine with dinner.

The Fort’s wine list ranges from Chateau Petrus, 1990 Pomerol,at $4,000 a bottle to Colorado’s Canyon Wind Cellars Cabernet Sauvingnon at $39 a bottle.

The Fort constantly reviews the best wines from around the world.  As a result, the wine list at The Fort is constantly changing to feature newly available wines, with many of the wines highly rated by Wine Spectator.

Every year since 1981,Wine Spectator has honored restaurants around the world for excellence in their wine programs, dinner menus and wine lists. An internationally distributed magazine with over 1.1 million readers, the three-tierWine Spectator awards are considered the most prestigious and respected in the world.
Wine lists were judged based on vintage depth, vertical offerings of top wines, breadth from major wine growing regions, number of selections, and thematic match to the menu in both price and style.

The Fort was recently named the “Top of the Town: Classic Denver Restaurant” by 5280 Magazine, and “Best Dinner Destination for Impressing the Folks” by Westword.  The Fort is located just 22 minutes southwest of downtown Denver on Highway 8, just north of the Highway 285 intersection.  Reservations are strongly encouraged.  For more information call The Fort at 303-697-4771 or book online at www.thefort.com.
