THE FORT IS NOW LISTED ON NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
The Famous Replica of the Original Bent’s Fort takes its Place in History
Morrison, CO –The Fort restaurant, a replica of Bent’s Fort, will now be a preserved part of history. As of August 4, 2006, the National Register of Historic Places along with the Colorado Historical Society named The Fort on their register as an important part of Colorado and United States history. Applicants for the National Register are evaluated on architecture, engineering, their significance within American history, culture and historical integrity. Through the work that Dr. Sam’l P. Arnold did with The Fort and with the help of the Tesoro Foundations educational programs, The Fort was able to achieve this prestigious honor.
According to the Historian for the National Park Service, Linda McClelland, “This two-story Pueblo Revival building is exceptionally important at the state level of significance for its rendition of traditional adobe construction and an architectural form that not only reflects Colorado’s rich heritage but is built according to the original 19th century plans for the construction of Bent’s Fort…”
The National Register of Historic Places is a division of the National Park Service within the U.S. Department of the Interior. The process of registry includes consideration of structure, location and use. They also evaluate the property to ensure that they have made a significant contribution to our history and that they embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction. All registered historic sites are listed at www.cr.nps.gov/nr/.
The Fort was recently named the “Top of the Town: Classic Denver Restaurant” by 5280 Magazine and “Best Dinner Destination for Impressing the Folks” by Westword. The Fort is located just 22 minutes southwest of downtown Denver on Highway 8, just north of the Highway 285 intersection. Reservations are strongly encouraged. For more information call The Fort at 303-697-4771 or book online at www.thefort.com.
